The Wisdom of It All - History Repeats Itself, Again???

At my Rotary Club (Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise- we meet at 7:15am on Tuesdays, hence the Sunrise), we have a Thought of the Day ritual - those Rotarians are full of rituals ;-).

The Thought of the Day this week was quite striking, in my mind, and I thought it's worth sharing:

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refitted, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance. Cicero 55BC"

Does this sound familiar, 1503 years later?  Do we feel like a speck of dust when you put all in perspective?  Is History going to repeat itself if we are not watchful?

What will the future hold for our kids if we don't go back to the basics, take the responsibility and stay vigil of our actions day in and day out as a Nation?

Five Cars Garage, RV Parking, I am Here To Serve You!!!

So, I have been holding Open Houses here in Marin County week in and week out for who knows how many months now - It has become my favorite pass time - One of the best ways to meet clients, neighbors, friends or just passer-bys.  Fortunate for me, due to the ads I place, online or in print; I always have a lot of visitors, never a dull moment and I have met so many wonderful people doing that!

One thing I have noticed is that being in a buyers market, I am getting a lot of very specific requirements and reasons for why one property is not Completely Perfect (is there such a thing as "completely perfect"?) for his/her/their needs -

Gonna have formal living room, how about that formal dining room?  I really don't see the need of formal living room nor dining room, just a big waste of space and furniture, great room would be wonderful, just what we need; Always want that big backyard, backs up to open space; I am tired of mawing that lawn, don't want the responsibility of maintaining all that landscape, give me a postage stamp sized yard; Ceiling is too low, feel pressured;  Watch for high ceilings, too much waste of energy; Pool? No Way, Sir, never swam, never wanted to swim, never will swim; Have to have pool, wonderful exercise, my kids are on swim team.  Hardwood floor is a must; but we just love the softness and warm feeling of carpet:  I really wish the living room is tiled, Spanish style; Have to have the View, water, hill, close, distant; too much shade, too sunny; Single story for retirement; how about that two story for privacy?  Kids next to us, or down the hallway in their own corners? on, and on, and on...

And of course, we always aim to please; so we try to sort out the puzzles and find them the absolutely  perfect house with the lowest, lowest price for years to come while we do it all with a big smile!

But now, this must be a baby boomer issue.  They have dispensable income, they are retired or nearing retirement, and they have those collections - they have to have a garage for their three cars collection (the ones that actually park INSIDE of the garage), the five cars collection; one has nine cars; how about RV parking?  I have many requests for that.  Now that we have a lot of time, RV parking is a must for that great retirement dream we always have!

Are you having fun searching for that Perfect Home for your clients?

I am.  I take it as a great challenge and I love it when I find that perfect home for my clients!

It takes a lot of time and patience, but the feeling of Great Accomplishment and Satisfaction is Priceless!

Active Friendship Ball - Make Sure It Multiplies!

Update 10/04 - By the Way, anybody who is reading this post can copy and paste the Friendship Ball and start your own thread - that's the REAL spirit of the Friendship Ball!

So I received this Friendship Ball, out of blue, from my friend, Margareg Mitchell (a.k.a. Ginger on Trulia).  It took me a while to respond, because, yes, I am speechless (or shall we say, blogless/) for the honor to be the chosen one among all her friends here on ActiveRain and many other places.

One of the things I like about the ball is it says Foreever Friends and has HOPE at the bottom.  True friends are the ones who hold us up and give us hope.  The ball is also like our friends in life, sparkling, colorful, comes in many varieties, but they all light up our lives!

The ball orignated from Gary Woltal (Gary's Origiinal post).  The idea is to pass the ball down to two people you connect with and let the spirit live on and multiple.  Sort of like Active Rain, doesn't it?

I would have picked Margaret, because she is genuine, thoughtful, brilliant and level headed.  She is also knowledgable about real estate, not only from the sales stand of point but wiith a background of builder and investor for luxury properties.  But i guess if I picked her, the spirit of multiplying won't work.  So, please accept this ball in spirit, Margaret!

The other very obvious choice is Brad Andersohn and I am sure you will all approve.  I first noticed him when he went on Trulia and answered a few questions.  I replied and followed him to ActiveRain.  I thought he would not have rememered because he knows so many people, but he did.  I noticed how much he was helping others and enjoy helping others, ant that was way before he became Community Builder.  And the Community Builder came, I am sure because of his involvement and the followings and respect he received on ActiveRain for all the selfless help he provided to all.  So, Brad, you get the ball from me.

I also love to read jane Anne's blogs.  She is the founder of the ECO-All-Starts ~ Green group.  She is the fearless leader of the group, extremely knowledgable about Green related issues. She is also creative, generous, creative, constantly searching for ideas to promote ECO, Green ideas, Active Rain and Localism.  She also does not know me well, but she has always been willing to lend a helping hand when I emailed her on the side asking for directions, clarification and just support.  Thanks JaneAnne!

And I am so blessed with so many great friends in life.  I don't see them much but everytime i see them, it's such great joy - those are mostly the friends I met when I volunteered at school and I just LOVE them, generous, happy, helpful, selfishless, sweet, smart, genuine and down to earth; all great, passionate people!
