Is it Better to Buy or Rent Calculator

I was looking for a nice Buy vs. Rent calculator and found the following calculator thur New York Times.  The calculator includes parameters such as monthly rent, home purchase price, down payment, mortgage interest rate, property tax; annual home appreciation and annual rent appreciation.  It will lthen tell you how many years it takes before buying is better than renting.  It does require registration.    Buy or Rent Calculator

This is great to know.  But we have to come back to it when homes start to appreciate and rents go up to get figures that would reflect the market at that time.  This is great to have as a tool.  Thanks.
